Gossner Classic

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were filled with basketball! The Aggies hosted their annual Holiday Tournament this week. The Aggies hosted Weber State, Morehead State and Cal State Fullerton. The Aggies swept the Tournament this year, which really is just a round-robin type situation. Every team played each other over 3 nights.

These three games were very needed to help improve the somewhat struggling aggie team. On Monday night the Aggies played a very solid game and did very good. Tuesday they played another solid game, everyone on the roster got playing time. It was a good all around game. Tuesday, the Aggies had to face Weber State again. It is hard enough to beat a team more than once let alone a team that plays the same way as you. That is what Coach Rahe does, he borrows stuff from the greatest coach there is. In the final game, and the championship game for that matter, the Aggies played very well and were able to hold off the Wildcats one more time. It was a great game to watch, the Aggies are playing some good ol' fashioned Aggie Basketball.

Nate Bendall was out last night due to his heart surgery he had to have. It was nothing serious and he is expected to recover quickly. So the starting lineup was different last night. Matt Formansano got his first career start last night and played, like always a solid game. The player that played out of his mind was Mister Modou Niang. What a performance! He was just amazing last night and did a great job all-around. As a matter of fact, the whole team just played outstanding.

The all-tournament team included two from USU, Jared Quayle and Pooh Williams. They did a great job in the three games. Tai Wesley got the MVP of the tournament, which is very well deserved. He played out of his mind and is starting to take the leadership role that was desperately needed.

The Aggies have a short break and then host Western Oregon on Tuesday, December 29

California Road Trip

UC Bakersfied
The aggies won. That is a good thing. An easy win and they did well.

Long Beach State
They played total opposite to me. They lost. The aggies could not get anything on the offence going and it was kinda sad. Tai had 22 points, season high for him. They just didn't look like and aggie basketball team.

The aggies are back at home for the Gosner Classic on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

USU vs UVU

Following a week of practice the aggies were ready to play again. Especially after a dificult loss at home to a very good team. The Ags hosted Utah Valley Univirstiy last night in the spectrum and started their new home court wining streak with a blow out win!

Last nights game was definatly a team effort. USU had 5 players score in double digits. That is something else right there! The Aggies worked as a team to get players open and they hit their shots. In the game we hit 13 three's, which hasn't been done all year. It was a great statistic that we haven't seen this year.

The aggies once again were victorious on the boards, grabbing 31. Utah Valley pulled down 19. Everyone knows the aggies are alway good at the free-thorw line, they proved that last night with shoting 85% from the charity stripe.

Last night for the first time Coach Morrill put Junior guard, Brian Green in as Point Guard behind Jared Quayle. In the past it has been Jaxon Meyer backing up Jared. Green, did a great job at the new position.

Overall the aggies did great job. It was a very solid game by the whole team.

USU vs St. Mary's

Well after a fantastic win against BYU, the Aggies had to face a very talented St. Mary's team. These two teams met last year in the ESPN Bracketbuster, with St. Mary's coming out on top. That was the case this year as well.

The Aggies again this year had their hands full with some giants down under the basket. Sadly I was not able to attend the game Saturday night. I know what was I thinking? Well, I had to sit on the bench for the LHS girls varsity game saturday night. It was very difficult to sit there and think that I was missing a good game. So I thought. The Aggies had to play against 5 players and 2 refs.

I can't say alot about the game. I refused to read the paper after I heard that they lost. I haven't even got on to the forum or the Aggie athletic web page. I am about to go crazy, but I decided I don't really need to read that stuff, it will only make me mad. Saturday and Sunday I was in total denial of the fact the aggies lost at home!

The Aggies play UVU on saturday, to finish up the instate games.

USU vs BYU

The day that I had been waiting for has come and gone. But it was a bast! I have been kinda busy since then, so this is the first time I have had to get on the computer! So here is Kylie's Take.

Kim and I get to the spectrum at 6:00. The line to get into the spectrum is all the way across the HYPER field and about 10 people wide.

Lukily we found and drastically shorter line and we made it into the spectrum. By 6:10 the entire student section was full, or nearly there. It was insane and people were running and screaming. We got a seat on row 19 section J. Thanks to Kim's friend who had season tickets who saved seats. And Kim's other firend to save a place in line for us. He stood out in the cold for 2 hours!

The hour before the game started, all the students were cheering for the aggies. It was crazy! They were also busy making their signs for the contest the Refraction Boys issued.

The game started and it was amazingly loud! It was insane, I pluged my ears for most of the first half, and could still here the game perfectly. At times you could even here the wistle blow.

The Aggies came out kinda, slow, and timid. They weren't exectuting the offences as well as they could, and they all wanted to be the star of the team. Luckily the Cougars only took a 3 point lead going into half.

The second half came and it was a totaly different basketball team. They came out played solid, solid D and they passed the ball a lot. And when they did that, they were able to execute the offense and score points! It was great!

The crowd was loud the entire game and never let up on chants to the BYU fans. It was a game I won't ever forget.

The next best part to being int he Spectrum, was being able to play the Aggie fight song in Seminary after two days of being "trash-talked" by my seminary teacher. Don't worry he wasn't really "trash-talking" he was just saying that BYU is better and they should win. On thursday, I brought in the song, and let the preformance by the aggies speak for themselves.
