This is a week that I don't think many Aggie fans will forget. This week didn't go as anyone expected. I am sure everyone has heard of the scary situation involving Danny Berger and then the miracle that took place following.
Basketball on the campus of Utah State University took a back seat this week as we all prayed for one of our own. Students were getting pumped up for the game in Provo against BYU, but that game suddenly became irrelevant and the only thing we wanted more was to know that Danny would be o.k. There was some extraordinary things that took place this week. From the quick thinking and composed athletic trainer Mike Williams to the outpouring of love from students on campus(hundreds of "tweets" #prayfordanny and writing get well notes on campus Thursday) to seeing Danny at the game last night. This was and is an amazing story because doctors say that Danny will be able to play basketball again!
To the Game:
You could tell there was still a bit of emotion when the game started. It was hard to see the team turn the ball over on their first three possessions and then have to fight to maintain the lead during the first half. Then something clicked. Preston Medlin went crazy! It felt like he scored like 20 points in a row. He took the game over and then allowed for freshman Marcel Davis to shine. Holy Moly! That kid went off in the second half. He already had 8 points to finished half number one. Then he came out with fire and scored 13 points to score a career high 21 points. He was hitting jump shots, 3 pointers and lay-ups. It was fun to watch. It was nice to see the guards making baskets and building confidence. That being said, it was a rather quiet night for our big men, I really hope that this is the only time. They are vital to a Coach Morrill system!
Though it was sloppy and not as crisp as needed, the real story of this game was having #12 in the building!
SCORE: 86-57
RECORD:5-1
UP NEXT: The Aggies have the week off for finals, then Saturday night they play at UVU. They then return home for the Gossner Classic Dec. 20-22.
*Side Note: The BYU game has been rescheduled for February 19 in Provo. The best part, Danny could be playing by then....
