Following a historic win at Romney Stadium it was Stew's Crew time to keep the 'A' blue. The first first in-state rivalry game came Saturday night between the Aggies and Rand Rahe's Weber State Wildcats. Going into this game anybody knows that when you play against Weber you are always going to get good fight, one filled with similar sets on both offense and defense. Saturday was no different.
The Ags started out fairly decent, but was never able to sustain a run in the opening half. The lead went back and forth for the first half and ended in a tie.
The second half was a lot like the first, lead changes back and forth. Both teams only able to sustain a 3-5 point lead for most of the last 20 minutes. The 10 point difference of the final was no indication of exactly how close this game really was.
A key factor that contributed to not being able to get a decent lead was our less then stellar free-throw shooting. To put it plainly, it was horrendous. Until, Ben Clifford came in. He was able to be our one consistent guy at the line and scoring our only points for a while during the game.
By the end of the game, Weber was missing free throws and open shots and the Aggies were making FTs and jumpers. Thank goodness the Aggies were able to pull it together to end the game and get the win.
I hope this game will be a game that the players can look back and see they had to fight hard and were rewarded with the win.
Final: 65-55 for USU
Record: 3-1
Up Next: The Aggies go on their first road trip of the season. They will play at Santa Clara on Wednesday. Then the following week they will play at BYU(this game can be seen on BYU-TV) before returning home for a game on Saturday the 8th against Western Oregon.
